Renowned hardware geek Matthias Balwierz (known online as Bitluni) is undertaking a highly experimental project: building a GPU from scratch using 64,000 low-cost RISC-V microcontrollers. He has integrated display panels with computing units to create a unique graphics processing system. Instead of using a high-performance GPU, Bitluni distributes graphics computing tasks across numerous microcontrollers, with each microcontroller serving as both a processor and directly controlling a single pixel on the screen. Each chip is also soldered with a basic RGB LED, ultimately forming a self-emitting computing array composed of a vast number of illuminated pixels.
