The Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan forecasts that by FY2026, the country's semiconductor equipment sales will reach JPY 6.55 trillion, up 26% year-on-year, surpassing the JPY 6 trillion mark for the first time. Sales are expected to grow by 13% and 5% in FY2027 and FY2028, respectively, reaching JPY 7.4 trillion and JPY 7.77 trillion, with a three-year overall compound annual growth rate of 14.3%. The rapid development of AI technology has driven growth in demand for advanced memory and logic semiconductors, while the establishment of new wafer fabs has also brought new business opportunities to the equipment market. The accelerated construction of advanced logic, DRAM, and NAND production lines in Japan is expected to drive the equipment market to grow by 10%, 15%, and 25% over the next three fiscal years, respectively, with sales surpassing JPY 2 trillion for the first time in FY2028, approaching JPY 2.28 trillion. FPD manufacturing equipment sales are expected to experience a V-shaped recovery, declining in FY2026 and FY2027 before growing by 27% year-on-year in FY2028 to reach a recent high, related to the expansion of large LCD panel sizes and delays in the introduction of IT OLED.
