Samsung Electronics’ foundry business unit has recently refined its supply strategy, focusing on fulfilling existing customer orders while cautiously taking on new clients. The expansion of the artificial intelligence (AI) market has significantly reshaped the demand landscape for foundry services. Notably, the demand for advanced manufacturing processes has shifted from smartphone application processors to AI accelerator chips, application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), and high-performance computing (HPC) chips. Presently, Samsung’s 4nm process capacity is fully booked, with next year’s capacity already fully reserved. Meanwhile, some of its 8nm process capacity is approaching full utilization.
