Gartner analysts predict that by the end of 2026, DRAM and SSD prices will collectively soar by 130%, driving up the average price of PCs by 17% and smartphones by 13%. Meanwhile, global PC shipments are expected to decline by 10.4%, while smartphone shipments will drop by 8.4%. The primary reason for the price hikes is the surging demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) driven by AI, prompting industry giants like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron to shift their production focus towards AI accelerators, thereby squeezing the capacity for consumer-grade DRAM and NAND.
