On June 27, 2026, SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, received approval from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to complete the acquisition of optical communication startup Mesh Optical Technologies. Founded by former SpaceX engineers, Mesh focuses on the development of optical communication technologies for data centers. Its optical transceivers utilize optical signals to transmit information between data centers, offering higher energy efficiency and lower latency compared to existing solutions. In February this year, Mesh emerged from stealth mode and announced the completion of a $50 million funding round led by Thrive Capital. This acquisition represents the latest development in SpaceX's recent series of expansion moves, aimed at advancing its space computing strategy and providing support for the fulfillment of its IPO commitments.
