On Sunday, industry insiders disclosed that the global surge in artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly boosted the demand for memory chips. Consequently, SK Hynix recruited over 2,000 new employees last year. This notable hiring surge is particularly striking against the backdrop of the overall sluggishness in South Korea's job market. According to data, by the end of 2025, SK Hynix's total workforce is projected to reach 34,549, marking an increase of 2,159 employees from the previous year. In contrast, during the same period, the number of employees in Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division, which oversees its chip business, declined from 78,699 to 78,064. As of the end of last year, the combined total of chip-related employees at these two tech giants stood at 112,613, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 1,554.
