As SpaceX gears up for its public debut, CEO Elon Musk has disclosed the intricate details of the first-generation orbital AI data center satellite, dubbed AI1. Boasting a wingspan of nearly 70 meters and surpassing the width of a Boeing 747-8 passenger aircraft, this satellite is set to play a pivotal role in SpaceX's spatial computing endeavors and its forthcoming initial public offering (IPO). The AI1 satellite is outfitted with expansive solar panels, enabling it to sustain an average computing load of 120 kilowatts, with the capability to reach a peak of 150 kilowatts, rivaling the computational prowess of an NVIDIA GB300 server cabinet. SpaceX envisions deploying millions of these satellites to establish a sprawling orbital computing network and has already mapped out plans for the Gigasat super satellite factory to facilitate mass production.
