On May 27th, Tencent Cloud revealed that its latest-generation Canghai V2 chip has been successfully "powered on," a term indicating that electrical current has seamlessly flowed through the chip, thereby confirming its operational viability. The chip has now advanced to the mass production phase, with comprehensive online services slated to commence in the latter half of 2026. Tencent's endeavor to develop the "Canghai" chip commenced in 2019, culminating in its entry into mass production and widespread deployment in 2023. Presently, over 100,000 units of the Canghai V1 chip have been deployed across Tencent Cloud and its proprietary environments. These chips are extensively utilized in critical scenarios, including live streaming, on-demand video services, 4K ultra-high-definition transcoding, real-time encoding for cloud gaming, and multimedia processing tasks. The Canghai V2 chip represents a significant leap forward, doubling the encoding and decoding processing capabilities of its predecessor, the V1. This enhancement substantially improves its cost-efficiency in terms of computing power. It is noteworthy that the "Canghai" chip is a specialized chip, meticulously crafted to cater to video encoding and decoding scenarios. Its development was primarily propelled by Tencent's own expansive audio and video business requirements.
