South Korea's financial regulatory agency said on Tuesday that Samsung has become the most indebted business group in South Korea, with total liabilities expected to surpass those of SK Group by the end of 2025. SK Group, the parent company of SK Hynix, has dropped to third place, while Hyundai Motor, Lotte, and LG rank second, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Overall, a total of 42 business groups have been identified as highly indebted, an increase of one from the previous year. As of the end of last year, the outstanding balance of bank credit for these groups reached KRW 386.9 trillion (USD 255 billion), up 4.1% year-on-year.
