On May 21, Lee Jae-yong, the Chairman of Samsung Electronics, headed a senior delegation on a quiet trip to Taiwan to hold discussions with Rick Tsai, the CEO of MediaTek. The primary goal of this visit was to win MediaTek over as a customer for Samsung’s semiconductor foundry services. In recent years, Samsung has been ramping up its foundry business, having already clinched the AI6 chip foundry deal with Tesla and actively vying for a 2-nanometer process order from AMD. During this meeting, Samsung might entice MediaTek into collaboration by presenting a comprehensive package that includes foundry services, memory resources, and supply chain solutions.
