Recent labor-management disputes threatened to disrupt South Korea's memory chip supply chain, but a temporary reprieve has been secured. The Suwon District Court in South Korea has partially granted Samsung Electronics' petition for an injunction, mandating that the labor union ensure the ongoing strike does not impede production or compromise the safety of production materials. Earlier, the Samsung Electronics labor union had announced plans for an 18-day walkout, spanning from May 21 to June 7, in protest over salary distribution issues—a move that could have potentially led to losses amounting to a staggering 30 trillion won. The issuance of the court injunction, coupled with the government's mention of utilizing its "emergency adjustment authority," has effectively dampened the strike's momentum, encouraging both labor and management to return to the mediation table and engage in negotiations.
