Samsung Electronics has cautioned that the ongoing scarcity of memory is pushing up prices across a range of electronic products. This situation is not expected to see relief in the near future, and there is a possibility that it could worsen next year. Insights gathered from Reuters and Samsung's earnings call reveal that the current memory shortage is predominantly fueled by a significant increase in demand from AI data centers. This impact is not limited to smartphones but extends to a broader spectrum of consumer electronics, including handheld gaming consoles. Market research firm forecasts suggest that by 2026, data centers will account for a staggering 70% of the world's memory production. Despite major manufacturers like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron ramping up their production efforts, estimates indicate that by the end of 2027, the global DRAM supply will only satisfy approximately 60% of the market demand. Consequently, the memory shortage is likely to persist until at least the end of 2028, if not longer.
