In April 2026, Kioxia unveiled the KIOXIA BG8 series, a mainstream PCIe 5.0 client-side solid-state drive (SSD) specifically designed for the PC OEM market. This series boasts a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface and incorporates Kioxia’s eighth-generation BiCS FLASH 3D TLC NAND flash memory chips. Employing a cacheless architecture, it ensures efficient operation through Host Memory Buffer technology. The sequential read speed of this SSD can soar up to 10,300 MB/s, while its sequential write speed peaks at an impressive 10,000 MB/s. Moreover, its 4K random read and write performance can reach up to 1.4 million and 1.3 million IOPS, respectively. In comparison to its predecessor, the BG7 series, the BG8 series demonstrates a marked improvement in performance.
The BG8 series adheres to the NVMe 2.0d specification and supports TCG Opal 2.02 self-encrypting drive functionality, enhancing data security. It is available in three capacity options: 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, as well as three form factors: M.2 2230, 2242, and 2280, catering to diverse user needs. Presently, Kioxia has distributed samples to select PC OEM customers, with the expectation that PCs equipped with this SSD will commence shipping in the second quarter of 2026.
