On April 21, 2026, memory giant Kioxia introduced the EG7 series solid-state drives (SSDs) tailored for the PC OEM market. This series marks Kioxia's inaugural foray into client-side storage solutions leveraging BiCS8 QLC flash memory. It incorporates DRAM-less HMB technology and supports the high-speed PCIe Gen4×4 interface. The EG7 series comes in three versatile form factors: M.2 2280/2242/2230, adheres to the NVMe 2.0d standard, and includes support for TCG Opal 2.02 SED encryption for enhanced data security. With sequential read and write speeds soaring up to 7000MB/s and 6200MB/s, respectively, and random read and write performance reaching up to 1000K IOPS, its performance rivals that of TLC-based SSDs. The EG7 series is offered in three capacities: 512GB, 1024GB, and 2048GB. Samples have already been distributed to PC OEM manufacturers, and PCs featuring these drives are anticipated to commence shipping this quarter.
