On February 19, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court in South Korea announced that a former Samsung Electronics executive, surnamed Kim, had been sentenced to seven years in prison for leaking South Korea's core semiconductor technology to a Chinese enterprise, in violation of the Act on Prevention of Information Leakage and Protection of Industrial Technology. Meanwhile, employees of the former subcontractor, surnamed Fang and Kim, were sentenced to two years and six months, and one year and six months in prison, respectively. The court determined that Kim and others had stolen semiconductor process information related to Samsung Electronics' DRAM, as well as design technical data for semiconductor deposition equipment, and used it for product development at the Chinese company, causing a significant negative impact on South Korea's national industrial competitiveness.
