Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently revealed the development blueprint for the next generation of AI chips on platform X. The AI5 chip has already finished tape-out at Samsung, marking the implementation of a dual-foundry strategy involving both TSMC and Samsung. Mass production of the AI5 is scheduled to commence in 2027. Meanwhile, the AI6 chip will be manufactured using a cutting-edge 2nm process at Samsung's facility in Texas, USA. It will be integrated with LPDDR6 memory and is anticipated to enter mass production in the latter half of 2027. Additionally, the AI6.5 chip will be produced at TSMC's U.S. factory, also utilizing a 2nm process, to further boost its performance capabilities. By leveraging chip and algorithm reuse, Tesla aims to create a unified hardware platform for intelligent vehicles and robots. The company also plans to shorten the chip design cycle to one new generation every nine months, aligning it with the rapid evolution of AI models.
