AI chips place stringent demands on performance and energy efficiency to minimize operational costs. Presently, leading-edge AI chips have embraced 3nm and 2nm fabrication processes. However, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang posits that Chinese companies can maintain a highly competitive edge even with 7nm technology. In a recent podcast interview with Dwarkesh Patel, Huang expounded on this perspective and voiced strong disapproval of U.S. policies that restrict chip exports. He drew a parallel between chips and enriched uranium, arguing that export restrictions will not impede technological advancement but will instead spur nations like China to intensify their efforts in developing indigenous technologies. Huang underscored that China boasts ample energy resources, a substantial chip inventory, and world-class AI researchers, endowing it with tremendous potential in the AI landscape.
