On April 13, a piece of news started making the rounds online, stating that several top-tier photovoltaic firms had convened a closed-door meeting in Chengdu earlier that month. The purported purpose of this gathering was to deliberate on imposing mandatory production controls and implementing price support measures for polysilicon.

This rumor had a significant impact on the market. In the afternoon trading session, the main polysilicon futures contract soared to its daily limit. Tongwei Co., Ltd. also experienced a sharp rise, hitting its daily limit at one juncture. Meanwhile, Daqo New Energy Corp. saw its stock surge nearly 12% during intraday trading.

However, an insider from one of the companies embroiled in these rumors quickly stepped forward to debunk the claim, asserting that the news was entirely false. Market quoting agencies further corroborated this by reporting that polysilicon quotes from certain upstream companies remained steady, with no changes. Additionally, the trading atmosphere in the spot market continued to be lackluster.
