In March 2026, the domestic laptop brand Chuwi found itself at the center of a CPU substitution controversy. Certain models, which were marketed as being powered by the Ryzen 5 7430U processor, were discovered to actually be fitted with the older Ryzen 5 5500U. Chuwi's official explanation cited a production mishap that caused confusion regarding the processor models. The company has committed to handling returns and issuing refunds for those customers affected. To be eligible for a return, devices must be returned in their original condition, complete with all accessories, and the return window is open until May 31, 2026. Furthermore, comparable issues have surfaced in other domestic brands, all traced back to the same ODM manufacturer - Shenzhen Yidao Information Co., Ltd. AMD has also launched an investigation into this matter.
