ASML, the global leader in photolithography equipment, reported a record annual revenue of €32.7 billion. However, the company is now grappling with a significant human resources challenge. Following the announcement in January this year that 1,700 employees would be laid off, a pervasive sense of uncertainty and anxiety has swept through the company for weeks. Management aims to secure a restructuring agreement with the union by April 1 in hopes of stabilizing the situation. Nevertheless, the union is questioning the necessity of these layoffs, arguing that they stand in stark contrast to the company’s stated plan to hire 20,000 new employees in the coming years.
