On March 6, data released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) revealed that the total number of international patent applications submitted under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in 2025 rose to 275,900, marking a 0.7% year-on-year increase and the second consecutive year of growth. China continued to dominate the global rankings, filing 73,718 applications—a 5.3% surge compared to the previous year. The United States, Japan, South Korea, and Germany rounded out the top five, respectively. Among the key sectors, digital communication accounted for the largest share of filings, while semiconductors emerged as one of the fastest-growing fields, reflecting rapid technological advancements in these areas.
