On January 13, 2026 (local time), the U.S. government formally granted NVIDIA permission to export its H200 artificial intelligence (AI) acceleration chips to China, albeit under strict conditions. Prior to export, these chips must undergo inspection within the United States and will incur a 25% tariff upon import into the U.S. Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Commerce has set forth several export restrictions: the quantity of chips exported must not surpass 50% of the total purchased by U.S. customers, and stringent measures must be implemented to prevent unauthorized use of the chips. Nevertheless, as of February 24, 2026, NVIDIA has yet to sell any H200 chips to China.
