Prior to the commencement of MWC 2026 in Barcelona, AMD discreetly launched its latest generation of EPYC 8005 series processors, bearing the codename 'Sorano'. Serving as the successor to the EPYC 8004 series, these processors maintain their focus on intelligent edge applications across retail, manufacturing, and telecommunications sectors, as well as extending their reach into data center realms such as cloud services and storage.

The processor architecture has undergone an upgrade from Zen4c to Zen5c, with the core count surging to a maximum of 84, all while keeping the thermal design power (TDP) steady at 225W. Among its standout features are a broad operating temperature range, engineered to meet stringent environmental demands; compatibility with NEBS-compliant platforms, making it ideal for deployment in challenging environments and outdoor communication settings; and a single-socket, high-core-count configuration that facilitates compact device designs. The new offerings are slated for release in the upcoming weeks.
