On February 24th, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is harnessing its procurement prowess and strategic investments to bolster domestic chip manufacturing in the United States, notably at TSMC’s Arizona-based facility, as part of a broader effort to diversify its supply chain. This year, Apple intends to procure over 100 million chips from TSMC’s Arizona plant, underscoring its commitment. Moreover, Apple has escalated its total investment in the US to a staggering $600 billion, with a dedicated $100 billion earmarked for chip fabrication. TSMC, in turn, has ambitious plans to construct six chip factories in Arizona; one is already operational, a second is slated to commence production next year, and the construction of a third is expected to wrap up by 2030.
