On February 23, 2026, it was reported that despite the 12V-2x6 16-pin power connector's maximum power delivery capacity of 600W, some flagship graphics cards still feature dual connectors to meet higher power consumption demands. Recently, Uniko"s Hardware modified a Gigabyte RTX 5090 AORUS XTREME graphics card by adding a second 16-pin power connector to support extreme overclocking. The modification was based on the reserved connector location on the graphics card's PCB, and the process was complex but initially successful. However, the graphics card failed the day after the modification, with inspection revealing burst capacitors in the power circuit and damage to the PCB. Currently, the graphics card has been sent for repairs, with initial suspicions pointing to improper use of a hot air gun during the modification as the cause of the failure.
