Earlier this month, Wade McFarland, Lenovo’s North American Channel Chief, issued a timely alert to partners, cautioning that the ongoing global scarcity of memory chips will likely prompt the company to implement price increases for select commercial products starting early next month. This adjustment will impact the commercial product offerings within the Intelligent Devices Business Group, encompassing PCs, smartphones, and tablets. The magnitude of these price hikes will differ by product, with precise details to be shared directly with partners. McFarland also elucidated how the memory shortage is influencing pricing dynamics and encouraged partners to finalize their orders promptly, before February 25, to circumvent potential price escalations post-March. The worldwide proliferation of AI data centers has prompted memory manufacturers to prioritize HBM chip production, exacerbating the memory chip supply crunch and driving up the costs of DRAM and NAND memory storage components significantly.
