Influenced by the global trade flow shifts triggered by Trump's tariff policies and the global AI craze fueling a surge in demand for tech products, US imports from Taiwan have, for the first time in decades, exceeded those from the Chinese mainland. According to data released by the US Department of Commerce on Thursday, US imports of goods from the Chinese mainland took a nosedive, plummeting nearly 44% year-on-year to $21.1 billion in December. In stark contrast, imports from Taiwan soared, doubling to $24.7 billion during the same timeframe.
