On February 20, 2026, reports surfaced indicating that a number of iPhone Air users have recently reported a hardware malfunction in Apple's self-developed C1X 5G modem, which has rendered their phones incapable of making calls. User itstheskylion shared their experience on Reddit, noting that their iPhone Air abruptly lost cellular connectivity, despite the device being encased in a protective cover at all times and never having been dropped. They attempted standard troubleshooting steps, including restarting the device, performing a soft reset, and restoring network settings, but none of these measures succeeded in restoring the signal. Given that the device employs a dual-carrier, dual-SIM setup and both SIM cards were unable to establish a network connection, the likelihood of a carrier outage was dismissed. Tests conducted via Apple's mobile service diagnostic tool confirmed the problem as a hardware failure within the C1X modem. As of now, Apple has not issued any official response regarding the issue.
