The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) revealed that four semiconductor factories in the country will officially commence commercial operations this year after completing trial production. ISM, a subsidiary of Digital India Corporation, aims to build a semiconductor and display ecosystem. Since its launch in 2022, the mission has progressed rapidly, having trained 65,000 professionals, and is on track to achieve its goal of cultivating skilled workers ahead of schedule. India plans to meet 70% to 75% of its domestic chip demand by 2029 and strengthen chip design capabilities in six core areas. Kaynes Semicon's factory in Gujarat commenced production in November 2024, with packaging and testing being key processes. India also aspires to become a global semiconductor design hub by 2035 and plans to master advanced manufacturing technologies by 2032, achieving mass production of 3nm process chips.
