On February 4, Siemens announced that it had acquired Canopus AI, a French semiconductor metrology software company, with the transaction completed on January 12, 2026. Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Grenoble, France, Canopus AI focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence technology to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of wafer and mask metrology inspection processes. This acquisition marks Siemens' second significant merger and acquisition in the semiconductor software sector in 2026, following its announcement in January of this year to acquire ASTER Technologies, a PCB testing engineering software provider.
