An X - platform user named InstLatX64 found in AMD's official documentation that processors based on the Zen 6 architecture will adopt Intel's FRED instruction - set technology. This move might signal the abandonment of the IDT standard, which has been in use since the 1980s, and the introduction of new instructions.

In 2023, Intel and AMD came together to establish the x86 Ecosystem Advisory Group. Their main goal was to drive the implementation of new instruction sets. In October of the previous year, AMD gave the green light to incorporate FRED technology into its new processors. It is anticipated that Panther Lake, Nova Lake, and the Zen 6 architecture will be the first to embrace this technology.

The IDT standard has its roots in Intel's 80286 era. Modern programmers, however, often view it as a "messy and user - unfriendly" standard. It forces developers to deal with a large number of additional operations and handle various edge cases.

On the contrary, FRED has made remarkable improvements in multiple areas. It ensures a seamless transition for both operating system kernels and applications.
