On the 29th (Beijing Time), Chinese researchers published a paper in the esteemed journal Nature, heralding the successful creation of a fully flexible artificial intelligence (AI) chip. Developed using domestic technology, this innovative chip leverages low-temperature polysilicon thin-film transistor technology. It is remarkably thin, akin to the delicate wing of a cicada, and boasts the ability to bend freely.

The chip offers a host of benefits, including ultra-low power consumption and exceptional energy efficiency. Its integrated memory-computing architecture seamlessly merges memory and computing units, thereby boosting overall efficiency. The smallest iteration of this technology, the FLEXI-1 chip, spans a mere 31.12 square millimeters and houses over ten thousand transistors.

Operating at a power consumption of just 55.94 microwatts, the FLEXI-1 chip can endure 40,000 180-degree bends without any compromise in performance. This groundbreaking chip serves as a pivotal computing engine for a variety of applications, including wearable medical devices and flexible robots. Impressively, a single chip with a capacity of 1,000 bits can achieve a 99.2% accuracy rate in detecting arrhythmias, showcasing its potential to revolutionize the medical field.
