On January 26 (local time), Microsoft unveiled its second-generation AI chip, the Maia 200. This chip is crafted using TSMC's cutting-edge 3-nanometer manufacturing process and packs an impressive array of over 140 billion transistors. Tailored explicitly for handling large-scale AI tasks, the Maia 200 chip boasts remarkable performance capabilities. It can deliver over 10 petaflops of processing power when operating at 4-bit precision, and around 5 petaflops at 8-bit precision. In terms of cost-effectiveness, it provides a 30% boost in performance per dollar compared to Microsoft's existing latest-generation hardware. The Maia 200 has already been put into operation at the Iowa data center. Later on, its deployment will be extended to other locations, including Phoenix. Moreover, developers have been extended invitations to try out its software development kit.
