By 2026, the development of AI technology is projected to trigger supply shortages in storage products, including memory and SSDs, which will subsequently drive up prices substantially. From the latter half of 2025 onwards, a general upward trend in prices has been observed across the global memory chip sector, with DRAM prices, in particular, expected to undergo consistent hikes. AI servers exhibit an enormous appetite for memory chips, fostering a 'voracious' demand dynamic that strains supply for the remaining market segments. It is projected that in the first quarter of 2026, DRAM contract prices will experience a quarter-on-quarter surge of 55-60%, while contract prices for consumer-grade NAND flash memory are set to continue their ascent, rising by 33-38%. The memory chip shortage crisis is anticipated to persist until 2027, significantly impacting the consumer PC market. As memory prices keep escalating, SSD prices are also on a sharp upward trajectory, placing a considerable financial strain on the average consumer.
