In a statement released by South Korea's Ministry of Industry, Industry Minister Kim Tae-nyo remarked on Thursday that the government would maintain a vigilant watch over the evolving situation concerning the United States' imposition of tariffs on specific AI semiconductor chips. The aim is to minimize any adverse effects on South Korea's domestic semiconductor sector. Additionally, the Ministry of Industry convened a meeting with delegates from leading South Korean semiconductor firms to deliberate on potential countermeasures. The preceding day, Wednesday, saw the U.S. White House announce a significant 25% increase in tariffs on certain cutting-edge chips.
