According to a report by Barron's, during discussions with Bank of America, HP's management team revealed that they are currently in the process of evaluating new memory suppliers based in China. This strategic move is aimed at easing the worldwide pressure on the supply of storage chips. It's important to note that this doesn't signify an abrupt, large-scale transition to relying solely on small and medium-sized manufacturers for memory supplies. However, experts within the industry are of the opinion that achieving 'qualification certification' marks the initial stride towards diversifying procurement channels in the long run. HP has set a target to wrap up the preliminary validation phase by mid-2026. Subsequently, there's a possibility that the company could start incorporating products from these newly certified suppliers on a larger scale into specific consumer and commercial PC product lines before the year's end.
