The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D has earned rave reviews as the "ultimate gaming CPU." However, an internet cafe owner recently brought to light some significant issues he has encountered while using this processor. Since installing 150 units of this processor in March 2025, 15 units have completely malfunctioned as of now. This translates to an average monthly failure rate of approximately 1.6 units, with failures occurring roughly once every one to two weeks, all without any obvious warning signs. To maintain system stability, the internet cafe has refrained from enabling the PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) automatic overclocking feature. Additionally, the memory has been configured to run at a conservative frequency of 5600MHz. The problematic devices are paired with the ASUS B650M-AYW WiFi motherboard, a mid-range, cost-effective option. The motherboard's BIOS version is the updated one released in September, which, according to the official description, is designed to enhance system stability. In terms of power supply, the devices are equipped with a Huntkey 850W gold-certified power supply unit. Some technical discussions have suggested that voltage fluctuations under load from the power supply could potentially be a contributing factor to these hardware abnormalities.
