Recently, the project repository named MPP belonging to chip - design behemoth Rockchip Electronics on GitHub faced a ban. This was due to suspected violations of open - source license regulations. The root of this dispute can be traced back to February 2024. At that time, the FFmpeg project team uncovered a concerning issue. They found that Rockchip had copied a substantial amount of code from FFmpeg's core components and incorporated it into the MPP project. Not only that, but Rockchip also removed the original author information and copyright notices. To make matters worse, they even changed the license terms. In response to this discovery, developers from Rockchip issued an apology and pledged to replace the code that was in violation of the license. However, over the past two years, no concrete actions have been taken to fulfill this promise. Following this lack of progress, FFmpeg sent a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notice. This notice meticulously detailed all of Rockchip's violations. In accordance with its standard procedures, GitHub then froze the repository. As of now, Rockchip has remained silent and has not provided any response.
