Two years ago, the EU imposed a hefty €376 million antitrust fine on the US - based chipmaker Intel. Intel subsequently filed an appeal against this fine. On Wednesday, the appeal was ruled upon, and Intel lost the case. Nevertheless, there was a silver lining for Intel. The EU's second - highest court slashed the fine by one - third, which amounts to roughly €140 million. As a result, the final fine stands at €237 million. This case originated from Intel's practice during the period from 2002 to 2006. Back then, Intel made payments to HP, Acer, and Lenovo with the intention of preventing or delaying the launch of devices that were equipped with chips from its rival companies.
