Not only is ASML barred from exporting cutting-edge EUV lithography machines to China, but it's also grappling with a host of hurdles in shipping relatively older DUV lithography machines. According to a report from the Dutch National Broadcasting Company (NOS), ASML has clarified that the products it sells to Chinese chip manufacturers are based on outdated technology and are incapable of producing the most advanced chips. Nevertheless, analysts harbor concerns that these machines might be employed in the research, development, and deployment of military technology.

In recent years, the United States has persistently lobbied the Netherlands to curb ASML's exports of lithography machines to China. Initially, the focus was on restricting EUV equipment, but it has since broadened to encompass certain DUV models. The Dutch government, too, has made several adjustments to its export control policies, imposing even stricter limitations on ASML's exports to China. These actions have not only dealt a blow to ASML's business operations in the Chinese market but have also set off a ripple effect throughout the global chip industry supply chain.
