The cost of DDR5 memory has seen a dramatic increase, sending ripples through the do-it-yourself (DIY) computer market. In response to this development, AMD has decided to delay its previously announced plan to phase out the popular B650 chipset. Initially, AMD had intended to discontinue the B650 chipset in October 2025, clear out remaining inventory by the end of that year, and then pivot towards promoting B850 and B840 motherboards. However, it has now been officially confirmed that production of the B650 chipset will not cease. Consequently, motherboard manufacturers will proceed with their procurement plans as originally scheduled, with the B650 and B850 series working in tandem to fulfill market demand. The sharp escalation in DDR5 memory prices has led to a downturn in new DIY computer assembly projects. In anticipation of this trend, motherboard manufacturers are projected to ramp up their orders for the B650 chipset and either resume or intensify the production of B650 motherboards to cater to the market needs.
