On November 24, 2025, the Moroccan government inked a deal with the domestic GPM Holding Group. The agreement is centered around the construction of a polysilicon plant in the Watiya Industrial Zone, Tan-Tan Province, located in southwestern Morocco. This plant is set to boast an impressive annual production capacity of 30,000 tons. The overall investment for this ambitious project stands at 800 million U.S. dollars, with production slated to begin in stages from 2026 onwards. A substantial 85% of the plant's output will be destined for markets in Europe, North America, and the Middle East. This strategic initiative is designed to lessen dependence on Asia, with a particular focus on reducing reliance on China's high-purity silicon supply chain, and to further cement Morocco's foothold in the renewable energy sector.
