On December 4th, against the backdrop of the breakneck pace of artificial intelligence advancement, the supply of certain AI chip modules has grown increasingly scarce. On December 2nd, storage manufacturer Transcend informed its customers via a letter that it had been notified of further shipment delays by its two principal NAND Flash suppliers, Samsung and SanDisk. Since October, Transcend has not received any new chip shipments, and there has been a substantial decrease in chip allocations for the current quarter. Transcend clarified that with major cloud service providers ramping up their data center deployments, chip demand has been on a steady rise. Nevertheless, leading manufacturers have been giving priority to certain customers, which has exacerbated the market supply situation and driven prices upward. Owing to the drastic drop in NAND Flash supply, Transcend mentioned in the letter that costs soared by 50% to 100% last week, and the price hikes are set to persist. The company characterized this surge as abnormal and projected a significant drop in supply over the upcoming 2 to 3 weeks.
