On December 4, reports emerged indicating that Micron Technology (MU.O) made an announcement on Wednesday, stating its intention to withdraw from the consumer memory business segment. At present, the global market is experiencing a shortage of critical semiconductor supplies. This scarcity spans a wide range of products, from flash memory chips utilized in smartphones to high-bandwidth memory (HBM) modules essential for artificial intelligence data centers.

Against this challenging backdrop, Micron Technology has opted to ramp up its production of cutting-edge memory chips tailored for artificial intelligence data centers. In a strategic move, Micron declared that it would cease the sale of consumer-grade branded products through global retailers, e-commerce platforms, and distributors. However, the company plans to maintain its shipments through consumer channels until February 2026, ensuring a smooth transition for its customers and partners.
