In the context of artificial intelligence (AI) propelling transformation within the semiconductor industry, South Korean tech behemoths Samsung Electronics and SK Group have separately inked cooperation deals with NVIDIA. As part of these agreements, each will install over 50,000 NVIDIA GPUs in their newly constructed 'AI factories'. To elaborate, the South Korean government is set to deploy over 50,000 GPUs to bolster the development of the national 'Sovereign AI' platform. In addition, Samsung Electronics, SK Group, and Hyundai Motor Group will each construct AI factories housing more than 50,000 GPUs. Furthermore, NAVER Cloud plans to scale up its AI infrastructure by incorporating around 60,000 GPUs. Overall, this comprehensive plan is expected to lead to a cumulative deployment of roughly 260,000 GPUs across South Korea. This move will position the country as one of the largest AI computing hubs worldwide, second only to the United States.
