Luo Weiren, a 75-year-old industry veteran, has only been retired for three months. According to industry insiders, he is poised to join Intel and resume his role in overseeing critical R&D endeavors. This development is already known to top-level executives at TSMC. Luo Weiren joined TSMC in 2004 and is regarded as one of Morris Chang's most trusted senior executives. Under his leadership, his team has successfully broken through numerous technological barriers, and he holds over 1,500 global patents to his name.
Several industry experts express skepticism about Luo Weiren's potential return to Intel. However, some also note that TSMC might not be in a position to completely restrict his career choices. Media analysis posits that the addition of a single senior executive is unlikely to substantially boost Intel's mass production capabilities or improve yield rates. Currently, Intel's 18A process has commenced mass production. Its GPUs are manufactured using TSMC's N3E process, while the SoC and I/O components are produced based on TSMC's N6 process.
