Recently, CPU collector CPU Duke has showcased the clearest-ever close-up image of the Intel 8008 processor in a unique manner. By meticulously aligning and stitching together 216 individual micrographs, he has created this landmark microscopic image of an early CPU. Designed by the same team that created the i4004 in 1971 and released in April 1972, the chip was manufactured using a 10-micron PMOS process in Barbados. The image clearly displays the 18 pad connectors on the chip and socket, as well as markings on the silicon wafer such as 'Intel 1971,' '8008,' and 'HF,' with 'HF' being a tribute to Hal Freeny, a member of the design team.
