On September 7, 2025, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, took to social media to declare that the design review for the AI5 chip had been successfully wrapped up. He hailed it as an "epic" product and boldly predicted that the upcoming next - generation AI6 chip would emerge as the pinnacle of AI chips.
Previously, Tesla made the strategic decision to put the Dojo project on hold. The reason behind this move was to channel all available resources into the development of the AI5 and AI6 chips.
The AI5 chip is slated to play a dual role. It will act as either a transitional chip or a primary chip for specific use - cases. This chip will be manufactured by TSMC, and mass production is anticipated to commence by the end of 2026.
On the other hand, the AI6 chip is poised to become the "unified heart" of Tesla's future AI ecosystem. Samsung Electronics will be responsible for its manufacturing. The first batch of samples will roll off the production line at Samsung's factory in South Korea. Subsequently, mass production will take place at the factory located in Texas, USA.
