On September 6, Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, openly stated that Intel's current chip production technology falls short of the stringent supplier standards expected by mobile phone processor manufacturers. Amon emphasized that should Intel succeed in refining its manufacturing processes to yield more energy-efficient chips, Qualcomm would be open to exploring partnership opportunities. He candidly admitted that, at present, Intel does not feature among Qualcomm's preferred suppliers. However, he expressed a hopeful outlook for future collaborations, indicating a willingness to consider Intel as a potential partner down the line.

Amon also reiterated Qualcomm's commitment to its existing foundry partnerships with industry leaders TSMC and Samsung Electronics. As a prominent chip design company, Qualcomm, like the majority of its peers, adopts a fabless manufacturing model, outsourcing production to specialized foundries. In contrast, Intel is actively seeking to attract external customers such as Qualcomm, in a bid to reverse its declining fortunes, all the while striving to maintain its autonomous chip manufacturing capabilities.
