According to TrendForce's latest survey released on September 1, the global wafer foundry industry witnessed an uptick in capacity utilization and shipments during the second quarter of 2025. This growth was fueled by the early stockpiling spurred by consumption subsidies in the Chinese market, as well as the anticipated demand for new smartphones, notebooks (PCs), and servers in the latter half of the year. As a result, the top ten global wafer foundries collectively generated revenues exceeding $41.7 billion, marking a quarterly growth rate of 14.6% and setting a new record high. Looking ahead to the third quarter, the industry's growth is primarily attributed to the seasonal surge in demand for new products. Advanced process technologies are anticipated to receive orders for new flagship chips, while high-priced wafers are poised to significantly boost industry revenues. Additionally, mature process technologies are also benefiting from orders for peripheral ICs. It is estimated that the overall capacity utilization rate will increase compared to the previous quarter, fueling continuous revenue growth for the sector.
